In 1831, Thomas Fonnereau published a short pamphlet titled a "Practical View of the Question of Parliamentary Reform" in which he put forward his, somewhat conservative, views opposing the Whig's proposals to extend Parliamentary franchise. Having inherited substantial property in 1834, he became a gentleman of independent means and devoted himself to his writing and friends, some being the artist George Clarkson Stanfield, the young Charles Dickens, along with his neighbours at Albany in Piccadilly - Lord Byron and the author Edward Bulwer (later to become 1st Baron Lytton of Knebworth). Extract from "A History of the Fonnereau Family - Huguenots from La Rochelle" by Stephen Hoole, 2002. |
