| The Barkham Manor Estate near Wokingham includes a fine country house probably built in the 1640s to replace the old medieval Barkham Court. It changed hands a number of times before being bought by Thomas and Harry #12198 Fonnereau in 1783. The brothers rebuilt the house to become the present Barkham Manor House. For reasons unknown they sold it on very soon in 1787. One guesses that Thomas' health was the reason as he died the following year. Thomas Fonnereau died just before his second son Thomas George was born. He is buried in Topsham, Devon. |
