Felix's prep school was St Ronans in Worthing, Sussex where he represented his school playing football in 1906, '07 and '08, and cricket in 1907 and '08. Two cousins, S N Cobbold (#401 on the family tree) and his brother A M G Cobbold (#403) were at the same school and were similarly active on the football and cricket pitches.

Felix served with the Royal Flying Corps during WWI.
He was shot down and taken prisoner. Our picture shows him in a prisoner of war camp in 1918.

Who's Who in Jamaica in 1919 under the heading 'Commissioned Officers of H M Naval and Military Forces Connected with Jamaica' quotes Lt. F R C Cobbold, 9th Suffolks.

Brook Lodge School was a school for refugees from Czechoslovakia in 1939 located in Albury, Surrey. This is what one of the pupils wrote: "A retired senior primary school teacher, Mr F C Cobbold took over running the school and the two main subjects, English and physical education. Mr Cobbold had taught at one of the famous exclusive English public schools and based Brook Lodge School on that pattern. The day began with early physical exercises. After the morning and afternoon lessons came sport (football or rugby in the winter, cricket in the summer) and in the evening there was 'prep', ie. pupils did their homework and prepared for the next day's lessons. The Prefect appointed by the school administration was responsible for discipline and had the right to impose punishments". The daughter of a pupil said that her father was always grateful for the year of education he had under Mr Cobbold.
By September 1939 Felix was Superintendent of Dr. Barnardo's Home in Plymouth, and his wife was Lady Matron.
