Adolphe Pierre Claude Boursot was the eldest child of Commandant Claude Boursot. Calais experienced a major economic revival from 1816 onwards when English owners transferred the lucrative lace trade from Nottingham to Calais and by 1820 it was producing more than 75% of the world's lace.

The Commandant had been a helping factor in this revival as in 1822 he had bought a beautiful 30-room mansion house set in a 10 acre park in the St Pierre suburb of Calais. Following his death in 1846 ownership of the Chateau Boursot passed to his son and susequently to his grandson.

Adolphe Pierre Claude Boursot lived in London from 1826 onwards and in 1836 founded A Boursot & Co which would go on to be England's largest Champagne importer.
