Adolphe Charles Boursot [CFT #3989] Born: 1842 Died: 1935
The wedding of Adolphe Charles to his 17 year old bride was a grand affair. After the honeymoon, on 2nd January 1868 his father, by then 63 years of age, handed over the running of A Boursot & Co to his two sons, Adolphe Charles, aged 25 and Edward Claude Henri, aged 24. Before doing so, however, he had secured the appointment of A Boursot & Co as exclusive agent for Perrier-Jouet and Co, a deal which resulted in the company selling more than a million bottles of Champagne each year.
He himself went into retirement at Chateau Boursot, where he died less than four years later, but his sons made a phenomenal success of the business. Twenty years later in 1888 Edward Claude Henri died and Adolphe continued to run the company as a sole owner until his retirement in 1910 at the age of 68. At this point the ownership passed to Adolphe and Rebecca's oldest son, Raphael and youngest son, Basil.
