d Aspall (Tomb on left side of church porch)

Temple bought the Aspall Estate in 1702 and left it to Clement Benjamin. This is confirmed by the Brooke family (Lords Cobham) who say they sold Aspall to Temple Chevallier in 1702

Aspall Hall had been in the Brooke family since the time of King Henry V (1413-1422)

Extract from Book Notes:

The sponsors at gus baptism were, according to family records, Sir Philip de Cartert, Bart., Sir Edward de Carteret, Kt., and Mrs., afterwards Lady Judith Jermyn, the wife of Henry Jermyn, who in 1685 was created Baron Dover, and became the third Baron Jermym in 1703 on the death of his elder brother Thomas, who had held the sinecure position of Governor of Jersey

Came to Aspall in 1702 . . . having purchased the Hall from the Brooke family, or which Lord Cobham was a member

His tomb is on the left side of the church porch

By his will (10 Nov 1722) which is preserved in the Bury St Edmonds District Probate Registry, Temple Chevallier left his estate to Clement Chevallier, of St Helier, Jersey

This "Clement" was presumably a cousin, and not a very near one, of Temple Chevallier. It is not quite clear whether the bequest was to Clement Chevaliier , who had married Mary Dumaresq (and who was about the same age as Temple), or to Clement Benjamin Chevallier , their son. At all events, whether in his own right, or by concession from his father, Clement Benjamin became the owner, the second Chevallier of Aspall

Died in Aspall, Suffolk
