d Died in WWI

Educated at Felsted School, Essex, from May 1896 to September 1904 when he won a History Scholarship to Clare College, Cambridge. At school he was awarded numerous commendations in French, Science, History, Maths, Latin and Drawing. He was in the Cricket XI, 1901-1904 (Capt. 1904), in the Football XI 1902-3, Hockey XI 1903 (Capt 1904), Captain of Fives 1904 having withdrawn fro the Football XI in favour of Fives. At Cambridge he got a Hockey Blue in 1906 and graduated with a 3rd in 1907.

In the First World War, Ralph died on 29th March 1916. He had returned from Malaya at the start of the war and was posted with the Indian Regiment to the south of the Suez Canal Zone where he was subsequently injured just prior to being posted to the Dardanelles. He returned to England where he recovered and decided to enrol in a three month officer training programme. At the very end of the programme he caught specific pneumonia and died in the Royal Free Hospital. It is worth remembering that for the previous six years he lived in Malaya and had been posted to a similarly hot Egypt only to come back to a cold English winter. He is buried in Braintree Cemetery, plot 5438 and remembered with his brother, Philip on the Braintree and Bocking War memorial.
