b Holywells, Ipswich d Tattingstone Place Philip was educated at Eton 1888 to 1893. He played in the Eton XI in 1892/3 and was Keeper of Fives in 1893. He was the winner of both singles and doubles Rackets in 1892 and 1893, being also Keeper of Rackets both years. He went on to Trinity College, Cambridge where he won Cricket, Tennis and Rackets Blues. He played first class cricket for Cambridge and played for Suffolk from 1902, captaining many times. His LL.B was awarded in 1896 and was a Captain in 4th Battalion The Suffolk (Territorial) Regiment from 1914 to 1922 He was a brewer in Cobbold & Co, lived at Kesgrave Hall, The Lodge, Felixstowe and Tattingstone Park, Ipswich. Was sole Trustee to Felix Thornley. Director and Chairman, Ipswich Town Football Club. 1912 Directory shows him at The Lodge, Felixstowe. Philip was Mayor of Ipswich in 1910 and a member of the Ipswich Art Club from 1913 to 1945 |
