b Maymyo, Bengal, India

d Ivybridge, Devon

Michael joined up and was taken prisoner early in the (1939-45) war. He was held in Colditz for virtually the whole war. Afterwards he returned to live with his mother at Whingreen in Ivybridge. I understand they ran a self-sufficient small holding. He stayed there after his mother died and eventually died there himself, unmarried and without children. It is thought that his incarceration in Colditz damaged him considerably. The house has since been pulled down and replaced.

The following account was kindly sent from Germany by Kay Ford in August 2021.

I worked for capt. Farr in the 1960's or Mr Michael as we called him, he was a very nice man, always smartly dressed usually in a light, beige suit his hair worn slightly long and he had a moustache. He drove a Mercedes convertible cream in colour. with red leather seats. He only spoke once about his time in Colditz and then he didn't say very much about it. As I now live in Germany the Story of Colditz has always interested me, but as far as I know the Castle is near Leipzig and I live at the other end of the Country so to visit it would be difficult, I hope this may be of interest to you.

Thank you, Kay
