29 11 1884 at St Jude's Church, South Kensington (by Special Licence) Charles Baldwyn Childe born 1853, eldest son of Charles Orlando Childe-Pemberton, DL, JP, of Millichope Park, Salop (Burke's Landed Gentry); educated at Harrow (September 1866 - July 1872); Christ Church, Oxford (matric 11 10 1872 aged 19); discontinued the use of the surname Pemberton, 1884; DL, JP, High Sheriff of Salop, 1899; of Kinlet Hall, Bewdley and of Millichope Park (sold 1891), Salop; Lieut., Royal Horse Guards; Capt and Hon. Major, Shropshire Imperial Yeomanry; served in Egyptian Expedition, 1882 and in South African War, 1899 - 1902; killed in action at Talana Hill, South Africa; monument to his memory in Kinlet Church: "killed while leading the South African Light Horse, in the attack on Sugar Loaf Hill (now called Childe's Hill) ....." |
