James Gibson-Watt and his wife Emma Hoey had a son and three daughters.

Born James Watt Gibson. He inherited all the great James Watt inventor's estate and possessions, including a great mass of scientific papers and experimental apparatus and as a result of a wish expressed in his will by his great uncle James the younger, asssumed the additional surname of Watt by Royal Licence 1856. Family came from Ayrshire. Lived in Radnor, Wales.
