of Tinwell House, Stamford. Son of Charles Lowe born 1789 Stamford, Lincolnshire and died 27 12 1869 Stamford and Mary Ann Rooe born 1804 Stamford, Lincolnshire and died 1862 Stamford. They married 4 10 1831 in Stamford.

The Lowe family were prosperous Stamford maltsters and wine and spirit merchants who, like many others diversified into brewing. In 1746 William Lowe took over no. 9 Broad St which adjoined the Nag's Head public house. In 1819 Charles Lowe bought the neighbouring premises and retired in 1862 whereupon the business was continued by John Rooe Lowe who ran it in partnership with Henry Thomas Betts.
