In his early service life John Henry fought in the Zulu campaign of 1879 and the South African war and served again in the European War.  They lived at Poplar Farm, Hollesley from 1913 to 1926 before going to Parkstone in Dorset.  He was MP for Harwich from 1859 to 1880
Succeeded to the title and became the 4th Baronet on the death of his uncle, Sir Humphrey Charles in 1887.
In the tower of All Saints, Hollesley is the following memorial:
"The Bells in this Tower were presented by Col. Sir John Jervis White Jervis, Baronet and his wife Margaret for the Service of God and in thanksgiving for the many blessings during 50 years of married life AD 1937".
