Occupation: Unknown, Justice Of The Peace

of Aspall Hall

Educated at Eton and King's College, Cambridge; admitted there as a scholar in October 1876 and was awarded first class honours in the Mathmatics Tripos in 1880. He played Association Football for the Old Etonians and won a Football Blue at Cambridge. He became an assistant master at the Woodard Foundation flagship school, Lancing College in 1880 before moving to Repton in 1883.

Whilst at Repton he played centre-forward for Derby County in their first ever season, 1884/85 and scored a goal in their first home game. His finest hour for The Rams was on 31st January 1885, when in their first ever contest against local rivals Nottingham Forest, on Forest turf, he scored a hat-trick in his side's 6-1 victory.

Following his father's death in 1885 he returned to Aspall to take over the family business. He proceeded to his MA in 1886 and in the following years became heavily involved in local organisations. In addition to his duties as a JP he served on East Suffolk County Council, became President of the Suffolk Chamber of Agriculture (1899), a Director of the Mid-Suffolk Railway and held a temporary commission in the Suffolk Regiment in WWI.

It is said that he was a very concerned employer who went on paying his men in a slump even though he almost bankrupted himself.
