| b Thornbury d (1st Qtr) Cheltenham, Gloucestershire Howard served in the King's Royal Rifle Corps 1914-1920. He married his cousin. The War Diaries of the 9th (Service) Battalion, Essex Regiment, show Lieut-Colonel HMB de Sales la Terrier MC as Commanding Officer of the battalion in 1918. He was twice Mentioned in Despatches. He led the battalion through the German Operation Michael attacks from 21 March to 3rd April. On 4th April 1918 he was sent to hospital "sick" and Major G Green MC temporarily assumed command until his return on 7 April 1918. |
