| b Yorkshire d Ashford, Kent Sir Gerald's parents were James Butler born 13th April 1848 in Yorkshire and Margaret Campbell Pollock born 1850 in Harrisburg, USA who died 1885. Sir Gerald and Lady Butler retired in India but Sir Gerald was recalled to take charge of armament production in India during WWII. It was for this that he received his knighthood. After independence they returned to Britain and first settled in Alderney and then in Jersey. |
