b Highgate, London d Delhi, India Gertrude Fletcher was educated at Miss Dransfield's School, Champion Hill, London. She became a Baptist missionary in the Cameroons, West Africa 1883-84, and near Delhi in India, 1885-1923. She was awarded the Kaiser-I-Hind medal in 1911. Her portrait, destroyed in the war, was in the Baptist Head-Quarters in London. She is buried in the Nicholson Cemetery near the Kashmir Gate in Delhi. She remained unmarried. Isabel M Angus: 'Savage of Souls', a memorial of her work, was published by The Carey Press, London, after her death.
