George Basil Cooper-Key (#62323) had a distinguished flying career with the RAF. He joined in Kent in April 1940 and won his commission in March 1941. It appears he was mentioned in despatches twice in 1944 and awarded the DFC in 1945. The London Gazette of 29th May 1945 carried the following tribute. "This officer has proved a most valuable asset to the squadron. He has taken part in a large number of sorties and throughout has set a fine example of skill, determination and devotion to duty. His last sortie during his present tour of operational duty was an attack on enemy shipping in March 1945. During the operation Flight Lieutenant Key executed a good attack an an enemy U-Boat. This officer is a fine captain, whose example both in the air and on the ground has impressed all."
