| b Chelsea, London F Gordon Roe comes of artistic-stock on both sides of his family. An Old Westminster, he first appeared in print in 1912, and in 1913 joined the staff of 'The Connoisseur' of which he was to become Assistant Editor and Editor. His work has appeared in many annuals, magazines and newspapers. Since 1947, he has devoted himself entirely to authorship, substantially adding to his list of books, now (1970) numbering nearly thirty titles, mostly on art, antiques, and social history. A Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of London, Gordon Roe is also a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, and a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society, besides being a member (or Hon. member) of several other bodies.
