b Australia d Canada Elizabeth was the eldest of 16 children. Geraldeen told the following story. The Hawkers lived right out in the Australian bush, their nearest neighbours being 30 miles away across the bush. They set out to visit them one day in their horse & buggie. After a few hours they realised they were lost but they saw a deserted shack and so went to it to see if by any chance there was anyone there who could tell them the way. Mrs Hawker made her husband go up to the shack and look around. When he came back he said that, just as he had told her, there was no one there. She said 'Oh I saw someone; it was an old person who pointed that way'. They took that direction and found their friends easily. Geraldeen said she had always believed in ghosts. Elizabeth's father was a member of the Australian Government at the time she married in 1882. |
