Mr. Edward James Hamilton, partner in the firm of Malleson, Stewart and Co., solicitors, of Queen-street, city, and solicitor for the Melbourne City Council, collapsed and died while waiting for a tram in Toorak-road, Toorak, shortly after midnight yesterday. He was aged 64 years, and lived at Kilderry, Humphries-road, Mount Eliza.

A son of the late Judge Hamilton, Mr. Hamilton was educated at the Melbourne Church of England Grammar School and Trinity College, being admitted as a barrister and solicitor in 1906. He practised at Drouin until enlisting in the A.I.F. in the last war. In 1940 he joined the firm of Malleson, Stewart, Stawell and Nanklvell.

Mr. Hamilton was appointed city solicitor in 1931, and was president of the Law Institute of Victoria from 1931-32. He was a member of the Melbourne Club, the Savage Club, the Royal Melbourne Golf Club, and the Peninsula Country Golf Club. He is survived by a sister, Katharine and four sons of his first marriage - Hugh, Richard, Macdonald and Wilberforce. His second wife (formerly Miss D. A. Colishaw) also survives him.
