b Freston, Suffolk (Twin) d (MI on War Memorial in Freston Churchyard) Daphne, of Freston Hall, became a member of the Suffolk VAD, the Volunteer Aid Detachment which comprised ladies working on the land or as nurses at home or possibly just behind the front line. At the personal invitation of the Duchess of Atholl she went (unpaid) to Blair Castle in Perthshire where she worked in the auxiliary military hospital which had been opened in the ballroom where she did mostly 'pantry work'. Daphne died on 10th January in the 1919 'flu epidemic. She was only 19 years of age. |
