The marriage service was conducted by the priest of the Santa Inez Mission and Della had to obtain the permission of the Bishop to marry Zacharie who, being of Huguenot descent, was clearly not a Roman Catholic. Della's mother, Ellen, was of Irish descent born in Vermont and her father, Marion, a Confederate Veteran, originally from Missouri. |
