| b Wallsend, Northumberland Douglas was educated at Wallsend Grammar School and South Shields Marine & Tech.College and Glasgow Nautical College. Doug served 12 years, leaving the Merchant Navy in 1984 with a 1st Class Certificate of Competency ("Chief's Ticket") although he never served as a Chief Engineer because the Merchant Navy shrank after the Falklands war. He subsequently worked as a Service / Commissioning Engineer for a number of companies finishing as an Engineering Manager. He started his own company in 2007 and has been successful at least up to the start of the Covid pandemic. |
