b Fulbourn Rectory, Cambridge d South Africa Clement was educated at Felsted School and Clare College, Cambridge, 1900-1904 where he took a first in the Mathematics Tripos and was 7th Wrangler. On leaving Cambridge Clement was appointed to teach Maths at Gresham's School but a year later he moved to Winchester where he stayed until the outbreak of war. During the war he was commissioned as a lieytenant into the Royal Garrison Artillery (59th Siege Battery) where he was mentioned in despatches, later he became Adjutant of 45th Brigade. Post war he was back at Winchester as head of Mathematics and from 1920 to 1927 he was Housemaster of Chernocke House. Throughout this time he had been a prolific writer of both books and magazine articles on mathematical topics. Indeed it is said there is hardly a school anywhere in the world that does not use one or more of his books. On retirement he lived at 73 North Lane, Preston, Sussex but preferred to winter in Madeira or South Africa. |
