The McCausland family came from the shores of Loch Lomond in 17th century but was of Irish origin founded in Scotland by Auselan McCahan who fled from Ireland about 1016 and established the Scottish House of Mc Auslane of Buchanan.
The Fruit Hill Estate (later Drenagh) was purchased by the Rt. Hon. William Conolly, Speaker of the Irish House of Commons and passed by his will to Colonel Robert McCausland. He died in 1734 leaving Conolly, Marcus, Frederick, Sarah, Rebecca and Hannah. Conolly, the eldest son married 10th February 1742 Elizabeth daughter of Thomas Gage of Magilligan. Conolly died 27th June 1794 leaving Conolly, (#7873) Marcus, Hannah, Elizabeth, Sarah and Sydney.
Conolly assumed the name of Gage in 1816 and may have died in 1827
