Claude's father was a 'Tea Man' in China. The peasants brought the tea down from the mountains and he sold it on. They always came when they said they would. They never let him down. Claude's father had two sisters, May and Ede who married two Jowitt brothers, Bob and Tom respectively, who had a wool business. Tom had two sons, Jack and Tom jr and the latter went to Hollywood and persuaded Gloria Swanson to have him as her leading man in a couple of movies but in Hollywood he was Tony Jowitt. It is thought that Tom lived at Strode Manor near Bridport and Bob in Winchester.

Claude's father was Aubrey Palgrave Simpson who married in Jan. 1895, at St. George's, Hanover Square, Jessie Adela Day (1867-6/3/1950). Claude had a sister, Eileen Esme Palgrave Simpson. Aubrey's father was Reginald Palgrave Simpson of Norwich, Norfolk, born 1867 in Weymouth, Dorset, (died 1954 in Bucks) who married on 4th July 1866 at St. Thomas, Portman Square, Maria Georgina Benedict (born1843 at 22 Queen St. Mayfair) one of 6 daughters of Sir Julius Benedict, Composer and Conductor who had been born 27/11/1804 in Stuttgart, Germany and died 5/6/1885 in London.
