Lady Christine Hay was educated by German and French governesses and at the Sorbonne in Paris.

She was the third daughter of the 11th Marquess of Tweeddale of Yester House, Gifford, East Lothian in Scotland. From 1947, she farmed at Donyatt in Somerset - chickens and ducks (which she killed and plucked) and, variously, sheep, angora rabbits, mushrooms; bred Welsh mountain ponies; then taught riding at Vicky's school, Denford, near Hungerford. She then lived at Nottinghill Gate, London, doing a variety of jobs, including working as a waitress in the Cabinet Office, cooking in a restaurant; then secretary to Alfred Noyes at Lisle Combe, St Lawrence, Ventor on the Isle of Wight (1954). She then taught at Denford again and bred and judged Welsh mountain ponies. She died at home.

Taken from the family records of Robert (Robin) Morley Fletcher (1935-2015).
