Other children were: Mary (1875-1943) Ingri (1876-1885) Mona (b 1877) Chisogona (b 1878) Frances (b 1880) Cecil (b 1881) Lucille (1883-1885) Florence (b 1883) John (1886-1923) Charles had one brother and four sisters. He was son of Colonel J Whyte of the 7th Huzzars who originated in Devonshire and while in residence in Hatley Manor with his wife played an active part in the life of Carrick-on-Shannon. He was on the Grand Jury of various Assizes in Leitrim during the years 1876-1882. He was on the Board of Guardians, attended Union meetings and Petty Sessions at various times from 1875to 1882. In 1877 he was High Sheriff for Lietrim and was mentioned regarding the appointment of Sheriff's Bailiffs. He was associated with "presentments" sessions for Leitrim's barony and he was in favour of raising workers' salaries. He was on the Diocesan Council of Ardagh in1881 and 1882. During 1882 he was also a delegate to the General Synod of the Church of Ireland. Charles Cecil Beresford Whyte and his wife left Hatley Manor in 1908 and went to live in Newton Manor near Dromahaire, a residence owned by Charles Whyte. Hatley manor was then rented to Richard Allen, Clerk of the Crown and Peace, who remained in residence there until 1916. It was then let to his successor, Robert Lonsdale who had been Crown Solicitor in Manorhamilton. He remained there until 1926 when he retired and went to live in Dublin and England. Hatley Manor was subsequently purchased by the Flynn Family. |
