b Bangalore, India d Earls Court Sq, London OBITUARY To the distress of his friends and relations Dr. Charles Macdonell Anderson passed away at the age of 78. Dr. Anderson was born in India, the son of a colonel in the Royal Engineers who had been through the siege of the Residency at Lucknow. He was also the nephew of another Mutiny hero, Sir James Outram. He entered Edinburgh University, where he graduated in 1889; he then came to the London Hospital and took the M.R.C.S.. L.R.C.P. in 1892. Like many others of his time he went abroad for postgraduate study at Vienna and Dresden. He graduated M.D. in 1896, and was assistant in the ear, nose and throat wards of the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary. Coming south Dr. Anderson settled and practised for nine years in Faversham before moving to South Kensington, where he spent the rest of his life. He rapidly acquired a fashionable practice. During the last war he was in charge of the Lady Mary Maynell Hospital for Officers and the Red Cross Hospital, Grosvenor Gardens. He was mentioned twice in dispatches. Though failing in health he worked all through the "blitz" days. he was a man of sound judgment and even temper, never ruffled or put out in the most trying circumstances. He was a most likeable man with a large circle of friends. He will long be remembered as an excellent Physician and a delightful friend. D.C.L.F. |
