| By the age of three, Barbara already showed an aptitude for music and needlework. At age 4 she began formal piano lessons, learning to read music at the same time she learned to read words. Her later musical pursuits won awards for her piano and singing efforts in Kiwanis Festivals. Later as a flautist she travelled to England and the continent as part of a prestigious high school band and performed with many amateur and professional concert bands. A graduate of Ryerson Polytechnical Institute Teachers' College, Barbara made her living as a teacher of Family Studies (Home Economics / Domestic Science) as well as teaching art and other subjects. She assisted in curriculum writing for the Boards of Education for both Waterloo and Wentworth Counties. As President of the local Family Studies Association, Barbara represented her colleagues, provincially at conventions as well as other professional functions. Barbara developed her skills in sewing, painting, writing, cartooning, acting and cooking....anything that caught her interest. Amateur and professional theatre provided a fulfilling pastime in Barbara's life. Here she met Walter Barton. They were married June 27th 1987 at Christ's Church Cathedral in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. Not surprisingly she made all the dresses. hats and her own gown for the bridal party. June 2003 saw Barbara retire from teaching and in September 2006 she and Walter moved with their two dogs to their ranch in Costa Rica. At the time of writing they have three dogs, one cat, two birds and five horses. Barbara sells her paintings, and is compiling stories of their Costa Rican experiences for the purpose of publishing a book. They also plan to offer horseback tours and tourist accommodations.
