b Thelverton, Norfolk d All Saints Old, Hollesley, Suffolk. MI in Churchyard Algernon was educated in Beccles, Suffolk and privately, prior to entry at Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge in 1874 where he resided 3 years. He became a Captain in the Suffolk Royal Garrison Artillery (E Div.) from 1886 before being promoted Hon. Major in 1900. He served as a Captain in the Remount Service during WW1 and was sometime a councillor for the Alderton Ward of East Suffolk. Although born in Norfolk he seems to have spent most of his life in Hollesley where his father was Rector from 1857 to 1884. He died unmarried. A report says that in 1892 he presided at the prestigious Bull Hotel Dinner in Woodbridge " at which the more pre-eminent residents of the town and countryside gather to discuss the public life of the neighbourhood" |
