Our picture shows Raulin in 1953 as a member of the Old Buckenham Hall School 1st cricket XI. After prep-school he went on to Marlborough (C3) in September 1953 where he captained the Hockey XI and went on to be captain of the England Schoolboys Hockey XI. He went up to Magdalene College, Cambridge before joining the Colonial Service for which he worked in N Rhodesia 1958-60. He probably died as a result of an infection sustained whilst in Africa. A very fine sculptured memorial adorns the wall in the Church of St. Mary of Grace, Aspall which bears the inscription "...of all sorts enchantingly beloved.." from 'As You Like it.' The memorial was unveiled by his friend from Cambridge days, Prince William of Gloucester who flew in specially for the occasion in May 1971. The Prince himself died in August the following year in a plane crash. |
