Educated at Stowe (Head of School); St John's College, Cambridge (Modern Languages; MA). National Service (Sword of Honour as an Officer Cadet) in the Palestine Mandate; 1951, joined Glyn Mills; Director, 1964-69; Director, Williams & Glyn's Bank, 1969-77; with Grindlays Bank; Deputy Chairman, 1977-81; Chairman, 1981-86; Union Discount, Director, March 1969, Deputy Chairman, 1969; Chairman, 1970-90; Ottoman Bank, Director, 1969-96; Director, European Investment Bank, 1988-95; in retirement, acted as Treasurer in helping Bath Abbey raise £4 million for its 2000 appeal and acted as Chairman of the Organ Committee in overseeing the spending of £825,000 on the Abbey's new organ.
