Arthur, a fourth son, was educated at King's College School, going on to St John's College, Oxford where he graduated MA in 1870. He was admitted a solicitor in 1874 but retired from the profession in 1905. He was first elected Member of Parliament for Great Yarmouth, Norfolk in 1906, was a Fellow of the Statistical Society and the author of several books and pamphlets on "Protection and the Foreign Trade of the Country." In 1901 he purchased Lauriston House, Wimbledon Common, formerly the property of William Wilberforce, MP, the Liberator, and associated with William Pitt, who frequently resided there, and after whom the "Pitt Tree" in the beautiful grounds was named. Amongst his recreations he listed golf, sailing and rowing having been in his college eight at Oxford for two years. It is said that he died in Barclay's Bank in Wimbledon.
